Forecasts are calling for a winter mix in Pitt County, NC today, and local officials are urging caution. According to the latest forecast for our area, Pitt County could see a mix of rain and snow this afternoon — possibly marking the first snowfall of the season.

At the same time, Pitt County Schools has announced a three-hour early dismissal for all students, citing potentially hazardous road and weather conditions.   What the Forecast Means
  • Rain is expected early in the day, with a transition to snow or sleet most likely this afternoon.
  • Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s, increasing the chance of slick roads and potentially icy conditions.
  • Accumulation may be light — a coating to up to an inch locally — but even minimal snow or ice can impact roads, especially in our region.

School Update: Early Dismissal Today
To keep students and families safe, Pitt County Schools will release all students three hours earlier than usual today. After-school programs — including athletics and clubs — are cancelled for the rest of the day
Tips for Pitt County Residents to Stay Safe Today
  • Allow extra travel time and drive cautiously — black ice and slick spots may form during the temperature drop.
  • Keep emergency supplies at the ready: blankets, flashlights, salt or sand for walkways, and a full vehicle tank.
  • Limit nonessential travel until roads have been treated or visibility and conditions improve.
  • Watch for updates from Pitt County Schools or local weather services in case conditions worsen.

Whether this is the first snowfall of the season or just a light winter mix, today is a reminder that winter weather can arrive suddenly — even here in Eastern NC. Stay safe, stay warm, and take care of your family and neighbors
